That is a great question. In a year-round model, the un-baptized still wait for the Rite of Election/Scrutinies (which only take place 1 time a year during Lent). The unbaptized spend at least 15 months in RCIA (14 weeks in Inquiry and atleast 1 year in the Catechumenate. They see 1 Easter Vigil as a Catechumen and are Initiated the next Easter Vigil. This means some may spend more than 15 months (and 20 months isn't unusual) in RCIA depending on which month they begin. Adults that are already baptized (Catholic or in a Protestant faith) also go through 14 weeks of inquiry and then go through the Rite of Welcoming (we combine these Rites and have 1 about every 6 weeks). After going through the Rite of A/W, the participants join the already existing Catechumenate. The baptized can be Initiated at other times of the year (the Rite of Election and Scrutinies are not part of their process). If you only do a 9 month process, the issue will be where to put those that finish Inquiry. Is there a chance that you could move to a year-round RCIA as your numbers grow?

We are presently doing a 9 month process for RCIA. In our region we want to set up an Inquiry Process so when folks come to us in the middle of the year we are not saying "wait until Fall" I listened to your presentation and have a question as far as the Rites go- I understand about the Rite of Acceptance but what about the Rite of Election with the Bishop, and the Scrutinies how do you celebrate them?? Thank you!
